Classes
ACTING FOR STAGE
Our acting for stage program starts with the facilitation of play and Imagination. Using games and fun exercises, we are able to educate the children on how to access their imaginations and how to create story and character through the power of their own creative play with an emphasis on focus and concentration.
We move on to cover improvisation and creation of short scenes which are then performed in front of the other members of the group, thus beginning the children's understanding of the actor audience relationship.
As we reach the more advanced stages of our curriculum we begin to look at specific acting practitioners techniques, such as Grotowski, Stanislavski and Brecht.
ACTING FOR CAMERA
As part of our acting programme, we cover all the basics of television and film acting. With the extensive knowledge of the professional actors who designed our syllabus we have been able to create a programme that is a true reflection of the skills required in the professional world.
Our programme covers the types of shots used, finding your ark, cheated situations and camera angles and the difference between the techniques of stage and screen. Each person is given the opportunity to act in front of a camera and watch that back, in order to evaluate and develop a critical yet positive mind on their own work.
VOICE TRAINING
At The Paul Nicholas School of Acting we understand that the actor's main tool is the voice. Our vocal training begins in the early stages with the exploration of the individual's voice and their ability to produce sound, moving swiftly to look at projection at this early stage.
As with our acting programme, this first stage is conducted through games and play. Moving on we explore the techniques of breath and breath control before moving on again to study the resonators of speech and their relationship to the body and vocal quality and sound.
Once these techniques have been learnt we apply them to the performance of texts. As we move on to text based work we investigate the students' clarity, diction and tonality of speech with an emphasis on these techniques and their use in rehearsal and performance.
We also have the capacity to offer singing technique classes as we feel this adds another aspect to a performer giving anyone entering the profession a leading edge.
UNIFORM
The Paul Nicholas School of Acting colours are red and grey and a stock of inexpensive clothing with the school's logo are available to purchase. This uniform is compulsory.
