Paul Nicholas School of Acting Community Arts Projects, providing opportunities for our young people.

On the 29th January 2008, Paul Nicholas School of Acting (PNSA) launched their Community Arts Programme. This will give young people from all backgrounds the opportunity to discover an enjoyable, rewarding discipline. Proven to boost self-esteem, communication and motivation the free 16-week programme will cover a wide range of activities from singing, acting and rapping to street dancing. It culminates in a recognised award and will be funded by local councils in an effort to reverse the trend of anti-social behaviour on our streets.

Paul Nicholas became a household favourite due to his role of Vince in the BBC's Just Good Friends and is currently playing the part of consultant surgeon 'Mr Woods' in the new ITV1 medical drama The Royal Today. In 2006 he founded the Paul Nicholas School of Acting with Karen Roberts, which has 15 Schools across the country and is growing rapidly. Commenting on the launch Paul said: "In a career spanning over thirty years in film, theatre, and television, I have worked with many young people. What always impresses me is their sheer determination, dedication and passion which when channelled properly can be a force for good for society at large."

Conservative Shadow Minister for Social Action, Baroness Sayeeda Warsi and Shadow Minster for the Arts, Ed Vaizey MP are both supporting the Community Arts Programme and are keen to see a high uptake from Conservative councils following the pilot scheme in Wyre Borough, North West England.

Baroness Sayeeda Warsi said: "We are delighted to be working with Paul Nicholas and Karen Roberts on this project. Their enthusiasm and energy for developing a nationwide community arts programme for young people is infectious, a project like this really can provide motivation and build futures."

Ed Vaizey MP: "Arts initiatives like this are invaluable, so many of us have childhood music, drama or dance training to thank for our confidence and communication skills in adulthood, the more young people who can benefit from this interaction with community arts the better."

Any councils through out the north who would like to take up this project should contact Karen Roberts 01253 851144 - Cllr. Barry Griffiths, Sefton Council 01704 873277 or e-mail karen@pnsa.co.uk barry.griffths@sefton.gov.uk or log on www.pnsa.co.uk
